Separate is NOT Equal

Newsflash:

Separate is not equal. Didn’t we learn this lesson years ago, during the civil rights movement?

I can’t believe how many times I’ve heard people expressing the idea that “gays can be together but let’s not call it marriage”. And when someone points out that it’s segregation, suddenly I’m calling them racist because they’re Christian. Nevermind that we don’t say women “making big decisions they can’t handle” instead of women “vote”. Nevermind we don’t say that blacks are “failin’ school they can’t handle” instead of blacks are “getting an education”. So why, why would we allow gays to have “basically the same thing” but just call it something different? Haven’t we all learned that it is not equal but is in fact insulting, degrading and dividing?

I think those in the anti-gay marriage movement who like to pretend they’re open minded towards gay marriage and declare they think gays should have civil unions but not marriage need to open a history book and see how very, very wrong they are.

Some people are entirely too hung up on the absurd notion that marriage has some sort of religious significance. If that is true, then what exactly is a marriage license and why does it have to be filed at the courthouse?
